Stair profiles in bright signal yellow

At first glance, the color of the stair nosing profiles at the Norbert School in Werl seems quite unusual and a bit garish: they glow unmistakably in yellow. No, this is not an exaggerated safety measure, because since the beginning of the new school year 2023/2024, there has been an integration class for visually impaired children at the elementary school. Thanks to wide, permanently mounted angle profiles in the signal color, the stairs are now safe and clearly visible to all children at the school.

During the six-week summer vacation, all work was carried out to equip the school building for the new requirements. The staircase presented a particular challenge. Not only did a new handrail have to be installed, but the stair treads needed more sure-footedness and clear marking to minimize the risk of tripping and slipping for visually impaired children. The installation company Werminghaus advised the school to use the Küberit stair nosing profile 530 for several reasons.

No matter whether the visually impaired pupils go up or down the stairs, they must always be able to clearly perceive the steps. Only then the danger of falling can be excluded. Therefore, the Küberit stair nosing profile 530 with predetermined bending point is ideal for the special requirements not only because of its 70 mm wide, grooved tread edge. It is also important that it is generously dimensioned along the stair tread with a width of 50 mm. In order for the aluminum profiles to fulfill their signal effect, they still had to be powder-coated to great effect; there are no statutory color specifications. Thanks to the profiles, all stair nosings in the Norbert School now shine completely in bright RAL 1026 luminous yellow.

The Küberit stair nosing profiles 530 are delivered already drilled. With lengths of 1 meter, 2.50 meters and 5 meters they can also be mounted on wide stairs without butt edges. This further increases safety by avoiding additional tripping hazards. Torx screws with a diameter of 3.5 mm ensure reliable fixing on the level, hard, dry and load-bearing steps.
